PAGASA: ITCZ to Keep Bringing Rain Over Large Part of Visayas, Palawan, Mindanao Until the Weekend

PAGASA's 5 AM weather update on Thursday, October 8, 2026, reported that the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is still affecting the southern part of the country. The ITCZ is where winds from the Earth's two hemispheres meet, and it can bring cloudy skies with scattered rain, particularly over the Visayas, Palawan, and Mindanao.

PAGASA said the cloudy skies over Palawan, the Visayas, and Mindanao may continue until this weekend because of the ITCZ. As of its latest data, no low pressure area is being monitored inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). PAGASA added that the chance of a storm forming is still small, at least until the weekend.

Visayas and Mindanao: cloudy skies, scattered rain

A large part of the Visayas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain, lightning, and thunder today. Temperatures will range from 24 to 31°C in Iloilo, 26 to 33°C in Tacloban, and 25 to 31°C in Cebu.

A large part of Mindanao will also see cloudy skies with scattered rain, lightning, and thunder due to the ITCZ. Temperatures will range from 24 to 32°C in Zamboanga, 26 to 32°C in Cagayan de Oro, and 25 to 32°C in Davao.

In Palawan, cloudy skies with scattered rain, lightning, and thunder are also expected. Temperatures will range from 27 to 32°C in the Kalayaan Islands and 25 to 32°C in Puerto Princesa.

Luzon: northeasterly windflow

Satellite images show little cloudiness over western Luzon, while thin clouds from the northeasterly windflow will bring light rain over the Cordillera, Cagayan Valley, Bicol region, Aurora, Quezon, and Marinduque. Cagayan Valley is expected to have cloudy skies with light rain. In the Cordillera, the provinces expected to be affected are Kalinga, Apayao, Ifugao, and Mountain Province.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, may experience localized rain showers and thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon but sometimes in the evening or around midday. It will remain hot from morning until noon, so PAGASA advised the public to bring rain protection.

Temperatures will range from 26 to 33°C in Laoag, 23 to 33°C in Tuguegarao, 18 to 24°C in Baguio, 25 to 33°C in Metro Manila, 21 to 30°C in Tagaytay, and 25 to 32°C in Legazpi.

Sea conditions

No gale warning is up in any part of the country, so sea vessels and boats can sail. However, PAGASA said thunderstorms and heavy rain can suddenly strengthen waves, so extra caution is advised, especially for small vessels.

Sunrise and sunset

In Metro Manila, the sun will rise at 5:46 a.m. and set at 5:41 p.m. today.

Where to get updates

PAGASA advised the public to follow its various social media platforms and to visit its websites, including panahon.gov.ph, where thunderstorm advisories, rainfall information, heavy rainfall warnings, and flood advisories for the whole country are posted in real time.
