Chinese Embassy Dares Lawmakers to Declare Ambassador Jing Quan Persona Non Grata
MANILA, Oct. 18, 2026 — The Chinese Embassy in Manila dared lawmakers to push through with their reported threat to declare Ambassador Jing Quan persona non grata, as more senators joined the chorus of criticism against the diplomat.
In a Facebook post, the embassy said: "Is this threat or coercion? But anyway, just do it. Otherwise, STOP BLUFFING."
In a Separate Post
In a separate post, the embassy said some "anti-China politicians" had talked about declaring Ambassador Jing Quan persona non grata (PNG). According to the embassy, "anti-China forces" have allegedly been repeating the same move over the past 30 years to threaten the embassy.
"We are fed up with these old and low tricks," the post read. It added, "If they really want to do something, do it quickly and immediately, please."
The embassy also said that while diplomacy is based on reciprocity, it will not welcome these politicians to China. "Simple and fair enough," the post read.
Remarks on Politicians and Media
In another post, the embassy criticized "a few politicians" who "seem to think about nothing but anti-China rhetoric." The embassy said they turn a blind eye to proposals for more dialogue, better management of differences, and stronger ties.
According to the post, they allegedly hide behind the banner of national security, twist words out of context, and hype up the so-called "China threat." The embassy called such behavior "truly deplorable."
The embassy also criticized Philippine media, claiming some reporters, like some politicians, have "very limited comprehension about facts" but are "good at exaggeration, taking things out of context and creating hype."
