Cebu City is laying the groundwork to expand its Eco-Station at the South Road Properties (SRP) as part of its waste-to-resource initiatives, after Mayor Nestor Archival met with representatives of GUUN Co., Ltd. and EX Research Institute Ltd.
In a Facebook post dated October 26, 2026, Archival said the meeting was held to prepare for the Eco-Station's expansion at the SRP, in alignment with the proposed GX Park.
Following the APCC Forum
The meeting follows the city's engagement at the APCC Forum last month. According to the mayor, the City of Yokohama and GUUN Co., Ltd. commended Cebu City's active drive to transform waste into valuable resources.
Archival said the city's waste management systems are continually evolving, but its international partners recognized its concrete efforts to reduce heavy garbage hauling expenses and modernize local environmental operations.
Key priorities
Three priorities were discussed to move the project forward:
Site allocation and expansion. Securing the final land area needed for the expanded facility operations was described as a crucial deciding factor.
Volume and variety. The SRP Eco-Station aims to process a wider range of recyclable materials and significantly higher volumes of daily municipal waste.
Streamlined logistics. The inbound and outbound workflow for every batch of processed waste within the facility is to be optimized for maximum efficiency.
The mayor's goal
"Our goal is clear: to establish a self-sustaining, cost-effective waste reduction model in Cebu City that can serve as a benchmark for other local government units across the country," Archival said.
He ended his post with a message in Cebuano: "Padayon ang atong subsob nga paglihok para sa mas limpyo, mas sustainable na Sugbo!"
