Cloudy skies and rain are expected in parts of the Visayas, including Cebu, this Saturday, October 17, 2026, based on the latest public weather forecast of DOST-PAGASA issued at 5:00 AM. The weather bureau is also monitoring a typhoon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
PAGASA said the tropical cyclone with the international name Champi is in the typhoon category. As of 3:00 AM, it was located 2,675 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, with maximum winds of 140 km/h and gusts of up to 170 km/h. It is moving west-northwest at 25 km/h.
Champi may enter PAR next week, PAGASA said. Based on its tropical cyclone threat potential outlook, the typhoon may enter the advisory domain during the first week, from October 15 to 21. In the second week, from October 22 to 28, it may come very close to the country's landmass.
Because of this, those in the Visayas and Luzon, especially northern Luzon, were advised to be careful. Whether or not Champi makes landfall, PAGASA said extreme northern Luzon should still prepare for strong winds.
Once it enters PAR, the typhoon will be given the local name Rosal. PAGASA added that it is also monitoring another tropical cyclone-like vortex, but the chance of it becoming a full tropical cyclone is low. Since several days remain, the public was urged to keep watching for updates.
Visayas weather today
The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may bring rain to Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, and the province of Cebu, as well as Mindanao. The rest of the Visayas will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of localized thunderstorms.
