Senate Presiding Officer Senator Chiz Escudero questioned Attorney Ronel Buenaventura in the Senate impeachment court on tables from an AMLC report, including figures on transactions in the accounts of Vice President Duterte and her husband, Attorney Carpio.
Escudero referred Atty. Buenaventura to Table 3, which shows about ₱424 million in combined inflows and outflows in the accounts of the Vice President and Attorney Carpio. Atty.
Buenaventura answered "Tama po" and said the figure, ₱424,179,536.1, covers only 2022 to 2025.
On Table 6, which covers 2007 to 2025, Escudero noted that time deposits were included. Atty. Buenaventura said the amounts were counted in the bank's report. He also said that of the ₱4.4 billion total, ₱529 million is for time deposits, and that for the 2022 to 2025 period, the entire ₱529 million is not included. When asked about rollover, he said he could not say that the amounts were rollover, and that he was only disaggregating the figures.
Escudero then turned to Table 2, on Gencorp Industries, which shows ₱1.9 billion in outflows against ₱1.06 billion in inflows. Asked whether this meant more transactions were not covered or reported as suspicious in the corporation's account, Atty. Buenaventura said it was only a possibility. He said he did not want to add an analysis that was not officially done.
Escudero also compared the ₱424 million figure with the Vice President's monthly salary of ₱350,000 and asked Atty. Buenaventura to explain how the figure was reached. He said he was bringing the question to its "absurd point" to test a hypothesis. Atty. Buenaventura said he could not explain it and was only relaying what the records show. He gave the same answer when asked about the ₱4.4 billion total covering 2007 to 2025.
After the questions, Escudero thanked Atty. Buenaventura for his time and patience in answering the Senator-Judges' questions.
