The Cebu City Government has continued the rollout of its "Basura Namo, Kaugmaon Nato" waste diversion initiative to more schools in the city on October 6, 2026.
The latest rollout was held at Quiot Elementary School and High School, Guadalupe Elementary School, and Ramon Duterte National High School. Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival led the activity, where students and school personnel took part in collecting and segregating waste.
In his message, Mayor Archival emphasized that keeping schools clean reflects the discipline and responsibility of everyone in the school community, from school heads and teachers to students.
"Ang limpyo nga eskwelahan nagpakita nga ang tanan nga mga miyembro sa eskwelahan, gikan sa principal, teachers, ug mga bata, nag-respeto sa atong lugar. Because kung ang atong lugar limpyo, nindot kaayo na ug layo sa sakit," Mayor Archival said.
He also encouraged the students to make proper waste segregation and cleanliness a daily habit that they can also practice at home.
"Kaning atong gihimo, inyo ning himuon because the moment nga inyo ning himuon, mahimo ni ninyo nga habit. So, sa atong balay, sa atong school, atong limpyohan," he added.
What happens to the collected waste
The segregated waste collected through the initiative will be brought to the Cebu City Government's Ecostation at the South Road Properties (SRP), where biodegradable materials will be processed into compost while plastics will be shredded for use in asphalt mixtures.
