PAGASA: Habagat Officially Ends, ITCZ Continues to Bring Rain to Visayas, Mindanao
PAGASA announced yesterday the official end, or termination, of the Southwest Monsoon season, also known as Habagat season. The country is now in a transition period toward the Amihan, or Northeast Monsoon, season, according to PAGASA's 5 AM weather update on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
PAGASA noted that even with the Habagat's end, other weather systems can still bring rain to the country. Aside from the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which is currently affecting the Philippines, PAGASA said a "shear line" is another weather system that can be expected to form during Amihan season.
Based on the latest satellite image, the ITCZ, a band of clouds formed where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, is currently affecting the Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan. PAGASA advised the public in these areas to remain cautious of possible flooding or landslides due to rains in recent days.
PAGASA also confirmed that the storm it had been monitoring in recent days, Choi-Wan, has now moved out of its monitoring area. This means there is currently no low pressure area or storm being monitored within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Visayas and Mindanao: ITCZ to bring cloudy skies, rain
For the Visayas and Mindanao, PAGASA said the ITCZ will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain, lightning, and thunder. This weather condition is expected to continue in the Visayas until tomorrow, while Mindanao may still experience rain until Saturday. PAGASA's Regional Services Division will continue to issue thunderstorm advisories, rainfall advisories, or heavy rainfall warnings as needed.
Temperatures today will range from 25 to 32°C in Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, 25 to 32°C in Iloilo, and 25 to 33°C in Davao.
Rest of the country
In Palawan, the ITCZ's effect may continue until tomorrow, bringing rain to the area. Northeasterly windflow will bring cloudy skies and light rain to Batanes and the Babuyan Islands. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies, with chances of thunderstorms.
PAGASA said the cloudy skies with light rain in Batanes and Cagayan may continue until Saturday, while the Bicol region may also experience rain by Friday and Saturday. Since this is a 5-day outlook, PAGASA noted that it may still change, and advised the public to continue watching for updates.
Tuguegarao will see a temperature range of 25 to 35°C today, while Puerto Princesa and the Kalayaan Islands are expected to have temperatures ranging from 25 to 33°C.
Sea conditions
No gale warning is currently up in any seaboard of the country, though PAGASA advised caution for those sailing off Extreme Northern Luzon due to the chance of moderate to rough seas.
Sunrise and sunset
In Metro Manila, the sun will rise at 5:46 a.m. and set at 5:42 p.m. today.
