CPSB Approves ₱51.6-M Supplemental Budget for Cebu Learners

The Cebu Provincial School Board (CPSB) has approved a ₱51.6-million supplemental budget covering priorities such as more temporary learning spaces and funding for young athletes and cultural performers. The board is chaired by Governor Pamela Baricuatro.

It was approved during the board's meeting at the Capitol on Tuesday, October 6. The budget will support additional programs and projects of DepEd Cebu Province as the Schools Division adjusts to the new school calendar.

Where the funding will go

₱20 million for the construction of additional temporary learning shelters (TLS) in Cordova and Danao City

₱22 million in assistance for 44 municipalities expected to participate in the Provincial Sports and Cultural Meet in December, equivalent to ₱500,000 per municipality under DepEd Cebu Province's jurisdiction

₱9.5 million for the conduct of the provincial meet, including uniforms and food for the officiating crew and DepEd personnel

₱100,000 for the CPSB's operational requirements

Provincial Treasurer Atty. Roy Salubre reported that the CPSB's trust fund stood at ₱1.5 billion as of July 31.

Responding to the new school calendar

DepEd Cebu Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Senen Priscilo Paulin explained that the division had already used its provincial meet budget for the competition held in February.

The revised school calendar requires a second provincial meet in December to prepare for the regional competition in March 2027, after the school year's last instructional block. While the calendar provides additional opportunities for co-curricular activities and training, it also places new demands on the division's resources. The release said the supplemental funding addresses that gap, helping the division prepare for the competition while supporting its other education priorities.

About DepEd Cebu Province

According to the release, DepEd Cebu Province is one of the country's largest schools divisions. It covers 1,143 schools in 44 municipalities and serves around 650,000 students and 27,000 personnel.

Dr. Paulin thanked Governor Baricuatro and the CPSB for responding to the division's funding needs. He said the support inspires their team and affirms that provincial leaders understand their goals for Cebuano learners.

Also present at the meeting were Cordova Mayor and League of Municipalities of the Philippines President Cesar Suan, Provincial Board Member Raymond Joseph Calderon (chair of the committee on basic education), and Provincial Board Member Mike Villamor (chair of the committee on higher and technical education).

According to the release, for Governor Baricuatro, supporting education means responding to the practical needs of schools while giving learners opportunities to develop their abilities. The allocation supports both: places where students can continue learning, and activities where they can discover their strengths, represent their communities, and grow in confidence.
