PRESS CONFERENCE (SEPTEMBER 25, 2026) — House Prosecution Team
House prosecutors to lay out VP's wealth timeline as impeachment trial evidence
The House Prosecution Team said it will respect the Senate's recent ruling on the two-thirds voting threshold in the ongoing impeachment trial of the Vice President, even as it stressed that the constitutional two-thirds vote requirement itself remains untouched. Rep. Joel Chua of Manila's 3rd District, Chairperson of the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability and a prosecutor for the House Prosecution Team, said the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, had ruled that the basis for computing the two-thirds vote would be whoever is present at the time — not a change to the two-thirds threshold itself.
Chua said the prosecution's focus going forward is to present evidence piece by piece, likening the process to assembling a puzzle. He said the team has already started laying out documents tracing the Vice President's declared wealth through her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), starting from 2007 when she was first elected Vice President. According to Chua, her declared net worth at that time stood at around ₱7.2 million, a figure that grew over the years. By 2025, he said, her submitted SALN showed assets of roughly ₱98 to 100 million.
Chua was careful to note that the prosecution is not yet asserting that this increase in wealth is inherently improper. He said the documents and evidence to be presented — both from past filings and in upcoming hearings — are meant to show the public and the senator-judges how her wealth grew over time, so that everyone, he said, can judge for themselves whether the accumulation was justified or not. He closed the briefing by thanking the members of the media present.
