A BPI witness told the court that the vice president's signature does not appear in the account transaction documents submitted in response to the court's subpoena. This came out during cross-examination.
The witness said they were prepared to answer a query raised earlier by Attorney Mike. Based on the inventory list of premarked exhibits submitted by BPI, the signature of the vice president, who is the respondent, does not appear in any of the transaction documents. These include documents on the opening and closing of the time deposit, the request for a manager's check, and similar transactions.
Attorney Mike then asked the witness to confirm that from the time the account was opened until today, there is not a single transaction bearing the signature of Vice President Sarah Duterte, whether alone or together with former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He also asked whether the witness has no personal knowledge of why the account was opened, including whether it was purportedly for estate planning purposes only. The witness said they have personal knowledge of the documents submitted by BPI as far as the joint account ending in 9539 is concerned, but not of the reason the account was opened.
At one point, an objection was raised that the question had already been answered. The presiding officer allowed the line of questioning since Attorney Mike was about to wrap up.
Attorney Mike also asked about the thick set of documents submitted, which pertained to the personal account of Attorney Mans Carpio. The witness had earlier said they have no personal knowledge of any transaction the vice president may have made in the account. Attorney Mike also noted that the witness had said the vice president cannot ask for any information on the account unless she has a special power of attorney (SPA), which the witness confirmed.
With no further questions, Attorney Mike ended his cross-examination. Attorney James then took over for redirect.
