Balamban Holds Inaugural Balang-Balang Festival with Street Dancing

BALAMBAN, Cebu — Balamban now has a new tradition to call its own. Contingents filled the streets for the town's inaugural Balang-Balang Festival, a street dancing celebration of the community's roots and the pride of its people.
Governor Pamela Baricuatro joined Balamban Mayor Amos Edwin Cabahug and residents in watching the performances. It is a milestone for a town that now has a festival to nurture and share with generations to come.

Theme and meaning

The festival carried the theme "Balang-Balang Festival: Celebrating the Roots, Spirit, and Future of Balamban," honoring the heritage, identity, and enduring spirit of the town. Its name draws from "balang-balang," which reflects a connection to the stories, traditions, and values passed down through generations.
Through the performances, the celebration brought attention to the journey that has shaped Balamban and the shared hopes of the people who continue to build its future. It was an occasion to remember where the community began and to celebrate everything its people carry forward.

The Governor's presence

For the "People's Governor," joining this first celebration was an opportunity to stand alongside Balambanganons in honoring their hometown. Keeping Cebu's heritage alive begins in communities like Balamban, where local stories are given a stage and younger generations have a place in telling them.
