Talisay City is treating its residents to a free taste of 25 lechon during the Halad Inasal Festival Grand Ritual Showdown. It starts as early as 5:30 PM today at the vacant lot at SRP, across Talisay City Hall.
The free tasting is one of the highlights of the city's fiesta celebration. Mayor Samsam Gullas said the number 25 was chosen because this year marks the 25th anniversary of Talisay as a city. He called the milestone "a beautiful reminder of how far we have come." It also reflects how the city has stayed strong and resilient through the guidance and intercession of its patron saint, Sta. Teresa de Ávila.
In a lighthearted reminder, Mayor Gullas told residents it is only a free taste, and asked them not to bring Tupperware so more people can get a share.
"I hope everyone will enjoy this free lechon tasting! This is our way of sharing with all of you the pride and flavor of our local delicacy as the Lechon Capital of Cebu," said Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas.
He added that the celebration should remind everyone of the true essence of the fiesta: to give thanks for all the blessings received and to honor Sta. Teresa de Ávila, whose guidance and protection continue to inspire the community. He also hoped the city will continue to preserve and celebrate its culinary heritage for generations to come.
Mayor Gullas also thanked the City Tourism Office and everyone who worked to make the fiesta activities successful. He gave special thanks to CTTODA, PNP, BFP, and the volunteers who gave their time, effort, and service to keep Talisaynons and visitors safe during the celebration.
The mayor ended his message by greeting the City of Talisay a happy 190th fiesta celebration.
