Tropical Storm Queenie Unlikely to Hit PH, Seen to Exit PAR by Sunday — PAGASA
Tropical Storm Queenie (international name: Surigae) continues to move away from the Philippines, with weather authorities saying the system is unlikely to bring direct impact to the country during its stay within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In its 11:00 AM bulletin issued on September 25, 2026, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed Queenie's center about 860 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, moving west-northwestward at 25 km/h. The storm currently carries maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h, gusts of up to 90 km/h, and a central pressure of 996 hPa. Strong to gale-force winds extend up to 400 kilometers from its center, but no tropical cyclone wind signal has been raised anywhere in the country.
PAGASA said Queenie is expected to keep moving west-northwestward through today before shifting northwestward tomorrow morning, September 26. By tomorrow afternoon, the storm is forecast to slow down and begin curving northeastward, eventually taking it out of PAR between Sunday afternoon and evening, September 27. Once outside PAR, Queenie is expected to accelerate as it heads further away from the Philippines. The bulletin also noted that the storm could strengthen into a typhoon by Sunday while still within Philippine waters.
Coastal waters nationwide are expected to see manageable wave heights of less than 2.0 meters over the next 24 hours, and no significant hazards to land areas are currently anticipated from Queenie.
Despite the storm's expected track away from the country, PAGASA reminded the public that heavy rainfall and strong winds can still occur outside the projected path and forecast cone, and that the track itself may still shift. Disaster risk reduction and management offices, along with residents in areas prone to flooding or landslides, were advised to stay alert and follow guidance from local officials. The agency also pointed residents to their respective PAGASA Regional Services Divisions for localized rainfall advisories and severe weather updates.
