The veteran actor, known for being unafraid of nude and sex scenes throughout his career, is set to headline the third iteration of the film franchise. The original "Isla" hit cinemas back in 1984, starring Maria Isabel Lopez under the direction of the late Celso Ad Castillo. It was remade in 1996 as "Isla: The Young Version," this time with Via Veloso in the lead role.
Now, decades later, Vivamax is bringing the story back to life — and this time, it's rising bombshell Margaret Diaz who takes on the titular role of Isla.
Directed by Rodante Pajemna Jr., the new "Isla" also brings together a mix of familiar and fresh faces, including CJ Torcido, Shannon Sizon, Yda Manzano, Mayumi De Vera, Mark Dionisio, and John Mark Marcia.
Based on the film's synopsis, the story follows Isla (played by Margaret), a beautiful and captivating young woman living on a remote island with her mother Celia and her partner Anton. Isla has long harbored suspicions about her stepfather, played by Mark Anthony, feeling that he secretly desires her — but no one believes her, not even her own mother or her boyfriend Miguel.
It's a tale, according to the film's premise, of a woman who dreams of change even as the world around her keeps deceiving and hurting her.
This isn't the first time Mark Anthony has made headlines recently. Just before news of "Isla" broke, reports also circulated about a near-altercation between him and actor Eric Fructuoso, allegedly triggered by Mark Anthony being "too charming" during a public event. Add to that the ongoing chika involving his ex, Claudine Barretto, who reportedly told him "I love you" during a recent encounter, sparking speculation online about a possible reconciliation.
