PAGASA: Typhoon Choi-Wan's Trough Continues to Bring Rain Over Western Visayas, Cebu, Tacloban

PAGASA's 5 AM weather update on Sunday, October 4, 2026, reported that the trough, or extension, of Typhoon Choi-Wan continues to affect the country's weather, even as the typhoon itself remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Choi-Wan's center was last located approximately 2,595 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon, carrying winds of up to 155 km/h near the center, with gusts of up to 190 km/h. It is moving north-northeast at 15 km/h. PAGASA said the typhoon is expected to continue moving north toward the waters of Japan and is not expected to enter PAR. However, its tail end, or trough, will continue to bring cloudy skies to the country.

Visayas and Mindanao: cloudy skies, scattered rain continue

PAGASA said there remains a high chance of scattered rain showers and cloudy skies over a large part of the Visayas, particularly Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, and Southern Leyte, as well as a large part of Mindanao. This condition is expected to continue over the next few days.

The rest of the Visayas, particularly the Camotes Islands area and the Biliran and Leyte area, will also experience localized rain showers and thunderstorms.

Temperatures today will range from 25 to 32°C in Iloilo, 25 to 31°C in Cebu, and 26 to 32°C in Tacloban.

A large part of Mindanao will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rain, lightning, and thunder, also due to Choi-Wan's trough. Temperatures in Mindanao will range from 25 to 33°C in Zamboanga City, 24 to 32°C in Davao, and 25 to 31°C in Cagayan de Oro.

Rest of the country

In Luzon, skies remain mostly clear, with hot weather expected over a large part of the region today, as well as in the remaining part of Eastern Visayas. Localized rain showers and thunderstorms are still possible.

PAGASA said that aside from Choi-Wan outside PAR, there are no other weather systems, including low pressure areas, currently being monitored inside or outside PAR.

Temperatures in Luzon will range up to 33°C in Laoag, 24 to 35°C in Tuguegarao, 17 to 24°C in Baguio, 24 to 32°C in Manila, 24 to 33°C in Legazpi, and 22 to 30°C in Tagaytay. In Palawan, localized thunderstorms are also possible, with temperatures ranging from 26 to 33°C in the Kalayaan Islands and 25 to 33°C in Puerto Princesa.

Sea conditions

No gale warning is currently up in any part of the country, so sea travel remains possible. PAGASA reminded the public that thunderstorms can sometimes cause rough waves, so caution is still advised, especially for small boats.

Sunrise and sunset

In Metro Manila, the sun will rise at 5:46 a.m. and set at 5:44 p.m. today.
