Mayor King-Chan Leads Department Heads' Meeting on Super El Niño, Undas, U.S. Ambassador's Visit

Lapu-Lapu City is getting ready for Super El Niño, Undas, the official visit of U.S. Ambassador Lee Lipton, and the 2026 Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta.

Mayor Cindi King-Chan led the monthly meeting of department heads and office chiefs at the Mayor's Conference Room, where these preparations were discussed.

Mayor King-Chan also thanked all department heads and offices, especially LEDIPO, for helping the city receive the 2026 Most Business-Friendly LGU Special Citation from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). The award recognizes the city's commitment to promoting investments and strengthening local economic growth.

On Super El Niño, Dr. Nagiel Bañacia, Assistant City Administrator and head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (CDRRMD), discussed its potential impacts and proposed preparedness measures. These include water rationing, particularly in island communities, and the acquisition of portable solar-powered desalination equipment and water tankers to help ensure access to safe drinking water. Residents are also encouraged to conserve water by reducing consumption, reusing water, and avoiding waste.

For Undas, the CDRRMD presented plans to ensure public safety and an orderly observance. These include deploying personnel to strategic areas, identifying emergency evacuation areas, and preparing fire response and search-and-rescue teams.

City Health Officer Dr. Nelner Omus discussed preparations for the October 16 visit of U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton. The program will include a tuberculosis (TB) screening activity at the City Health Office and the turnover of GeneXpert cartridges donated by the U.S. government to strengthen the city's capacity for rapid and accurate TB diagnosis.

City Tourism Officer Garry Lao presented the religious celebrations and other activities planned for the 2026 Lapu-Lapu City Fiesta in honor of Nuestra Señora de Regla.

IT Department Head Louie De Los Santos also presented the Document Management System, which features a document-tracking mechanism that allows department liaisons to monitor records from receipt to release, return, or cancellation. The system aims to improve interdepartmental coordination and records management.

Mayor King-Chan emphasized the importance of teamwork, coordination, and continuous improvement in public service. She urged all departments to work together to strengthen city operations and respond effectively to the needs of Oponganons.
