Rep. Bel Zamora Responds to Misogynistic Remarks: "I'm Here to Do My Job"

Rep. Bel Zamora Responds to Misogynistic Remarks, Cites March UN Speech on Women's Rights

San Juan Lone District Rep. Bel Zamora addressed misogynistic remarks made against her, following criticism of her style during her direct examination of Police Major Sangalang at the Senate impeachment trial on Monday, September 28, 2026.

Zamora, who serves as a House prosecutor in the trial, said it is unfortunate that many Filipinos still make misogynistic remarks directed at women and girls who can speak well and serve as lawyers in an impeachment court. She said she believes critics "can't handle sass" or "style." "I don't care if they bash me," she said. "I'm here to do my job."

On a more serious note, Zamora recalled that in March this year, she was one of the Philippine representatives to the 70th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She said she spoke before the United Nations about the barriers to women's advancement and to improving women's lives. She said it remains unfortunate that some members of society still hold this kind of thinking.
