The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is now tracking a newly formed tropical depression located around 1,870 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, based on its 5:00 PM advisory issued today, September 22, 2026. The system, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), currently carries maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h and gusts of up to 55 km/h, with a central pressure of 1004 hPa. It's moving northward at 15 km/h.
According to PAGASA's outlook, the depression is expected to track generally west-northwestward over the next three days and is forecast to enter PAR by Thursday morning, September 24. Once it crosses into Philippine waters, it will be given the local name "Queenie." The weather bureau also noted that the system may strengthen into a tropical storm even before reaching PAR, and could intensify further into typhoon category by the weekend, with additional strengthening possible beyond the five-day forecast window.
As of this advisory, the tropical depression remains outside PAR and is not expected to directly affect the country's weather or sea conditions within the next three days, based on PAGASA's outlook. The agency reiterated its advice for the public and disaster risk reduction offices to continue monitoring updates as the system develops.
