Palace: Walang Pulitika sa Paglabas ng LGSF para sa mga LGU
Malacañang said on Tuesday that the release of Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) allocations to local government units (LGUs) is not politically motivated. According to the Palace, requests are evaluated based on feasibility studies, supporting documents, and the recommendations of concerned government agencies.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) carefully reviews proposals from LGUs to determine whether their projects are necessary and viable. In a Palace press briefing, she said funds will be released once an LGU's documents show it qualifies, "kahit ano ang inyong kulay" (whatever your political color). She added that release is subject to the necessary requirements and safeguards, and assured that the President, the DBM, and other concerned agencies will keep upholding the proper management and prudent use of public funds.
Castro explained that LGUs send their requests and supporting documents directly to the DBM, where they must show why they need the funding. She clarified, however, that filing a request does not guarantee approval.
She also called irresponsible the claims of critics that approvals are politically motivated and that only allies of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. receive LGSF assistance. Castro cited Naga City as an example, saying Mayor Leni Robredo and the President are not allies, yet the city was given the funds it requested. The release states that Robredo said Naga City secured P450 million through the LGSF for the rehabilitation of the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum, plus P50 million for heavy equipment for disaster response.
