From Hospital Bed to Law School: Yasmien Kurdi's Emotional Journey After Bullying Incident

From Trauma to Law School: Yasmien Kurdi Opens Up About Her "Healing Ground"

How does law school become a healing ground? For Yasmien Kurdi, it's not a strange question at all — it's her real story.

On her verified Facebook page, Yasmien shared an emotional reflection about why she decided to enroll in law school — a decision that started as a way to cope with the pain caused by the bullying her daughter experienced at her previous school.

According to Yasmien's post, her daughter was rushed to the ER after developing severe anxiety linked to a bullying incident in December 2024. But that wasn't the extent of it — Yasmien herself ended up in the ER after suffering from severe urticaria brought on by overwhelming stress. She was breastfeeding at the time, and her condition forced her to stop and dispose of her breast milk.

Following the incident, Yasmien's daughter left her previous school and underwent therapy for six months to gradually rebuild her confidence and sense of self. To keep up with her studies, she had to complete an entire school year's worth of coursework in just two to three months.

"Ganun ka-traumatic yung pinagdaanan namin ng pamilya ko, lalo na't kasabay pa noon ang postpartum period ko" ("That's how traumatic what our family went through was, especially since it coincided with my postpartum period"), Yasmien wrote, adding that she still remembers every detail of what her family endured.

Still, she was quick to clarify that law school isn't stress-free — it's simply a different kind of stress. "May choice ka naman kung mag-stay ka o hindi" ("You actually have a choice whether to stay or not"), she explained, noting that pursuing law gave her a sense of purpose and helped her focus on something positive instead of constantly reliving what happened.

Yasmien accompanied her post with hospital photos — including images of the rash on her arm from the urticaria — along with photos from law school-related events, where she's seen posing with fellow students and legal professionals.
